Battersea #SpreadtheLOVE
Advertisement - Promotional Merch
This project was to create a short animated video for a campaign for Battersea Dogs Home promoting adopting a dog or cat for Valentine's Day, called Spread the LOVE. As well as the promotional video, I created merch and other advertising to support the campaign.

Project Planning
To start the project, I planned out my ideas. I wanted to create a short animation to support the Battersea Dogs Home #SpreadtheLOVE Campaign for Valentine's Day to encourage people to adopt a furry friend.

Here is a mindmap outlining all of my ideas for the project, such as the storyline, animation style, and overall look and feel. This helped me to move on to the next stage of character design, storyboarding and script.
Branding
To start, I looked at Battersea Dogs Home's original branding, including the logo, fonts and colour scheme. I also noted at this stage some of the pre-existing promotional material including merch and banner advertising (social media, real-world etc).
To start the project, I created some branding for the Spread the Love campaign sub-brand. Within this, I had to be mindful of combining the idea of Valentine's Day with Battersea Dogs Home's pre-existing branding.

I also noted their branding used for one of their sub-brands The Muddy Dog, a challenge to raise money for the charity. The branding incorporates many of the elements featured in the original branding, however, has mixed up elements such as the logo and colour scheme.

Pre-Production Storyboard/ Script

I first planned out my video using a script and storyboard. I first wrote the script and sketched out part of my storyboard, after I had modelled my characters I also created a storyboard using still renders of each of my scenes before I started animating.
My initial storyboard, showing the first half of my animation in terms of each of the camera moves. This first part of the animation would be in the form of a continuous shot and therefore planning this out was vital for the flow of the animation.

Here is my finished visual storyboard, listing out what shots match up with the script throughout.

Pre-Production Character Design
Before I could start my animation I needed to establish my characters for the animation. Below I have outlined my process from sketches to models to final characters for the animation.

Production/ Post Production
Once I had completed all of the pre-production for the project I moved on to the production and then post-production stages - this was animating, rendering and then assembling my final video. For this, I used a combination of Cinema 4D and then After Effects to add to my post-production work and to edit the video together.

Promotional Merch
To accompany the promotional video I wanted to create some other supporting material this was in the form of merch such as doggy collars, doggy blankets, t-shirts, tote bags and stickers.

I next wanted to design some products for dogs so that they could match their humans! I first designed a dog collar tag using the sub-brand logo, which matches the T-Shirt a person could buy and wear.
Here is my finished animation. I then started to think about the placement for this advertisement and how it could be reappropriate for different placements.

Placement wise for this advertisement, I think it would work as a digital social media campaign on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. This is because it would appeal to a newer generation of future pet owners, people who are moving out to live on their own and aren't ready for children yet. The video is about 80 seconds in duration but would need to be cropped down for some of these placements, for example on Instagram I would create a short 10-15 second version of the video to capture attention but also get across the message of the campaign.

Banners/ Posters
The final part of the project was to create some banners and posters, not only for outdoor marketing purposes but also ones that could be used on Battersea Dogs Home's social media platforms.

The next step was to create some still image posters which would also support the brand through a different medium of advertising. For these, I followed a very similar style to Battersea Dogs Homes's pre-existing banners but changed the slogan and imagery to match this campaign.

I finally wanted to create some banners which would be used on social media platforms to also support the campaign. These would be featured on Battersea Dogs Home's pre-existing social media accounts and take over for the duration of the campaign. I again used still renders from the animation and the branding I created.
